Pets In Need Herts CIC was founded due to being in hardship for a short period. 

We were thankful Foodbanks were able to kindly donate, but sadly they couldn’t give us the level of support needed. We thankfully were able to get help from family members.

We couldn’t get over the ever increasing thoughts that there are many people out there who don’t have family and friends to help them out, and more importantly “what will be the outcome for their pets”  

We started off by donating to the local community, and neighbours. We quickly learned that there was a demand for our service. So we started promoting on social media, and things grew fast.

We are passionate about animals and we feel no animal should go without due to their owners financial situation, most of the time through no fault of their own. 

We want to be able to stop neglect and abuse, and reduce the intake of pets being given up to rescue centres, where sadly a high majority of their animals are put to sleep. 

We want to be able to ease people’s mental stresses and burdens. Enable people to live and not exist and enjoy life, and be able to pay their bills. We wanted to help reduce people suffering from mental health issues and help those people whose pets bring them so much love and joy. To help them get out and about by meeting new people, reducing physical illnesses and isolation.

Pets in needs provides a dedicated pet food bank within our community. Making a difference to support animal welfare and help support owners.

Our mission is to keep pets where they belong, with you in a loving home, instead of the rescue centres picking up the pieces when things have gone wrong, and an animal and person has suffered.

Research has found that 72% of UK pet owners are saying they think the cost of living will impact their animals, 28% of pet owners are worried about being able to care for their pets and 19% are worried about feeding their pets. 75% of tenants state they had a pet for emotional (77%) and mental health (83%) support; 37% of tenants have had to choose between a pet and a roof over their head; 28% of tenants stated it took them 12 months to find pet friendly accommodation and 69% of tenants said they would risk becoming homeless if it meant they could stay with their pets.

These stats indicate just some of the challenges pet owners are facing due to the current economic climate. We estimate that 1.9 million pets are owned by people who use human food banks.
